All over the world there is near unanimity amongst educationists and intellectuals that the current system of education does not seem to deliver, viewed from several angles  such as promoting creativity and imagination, employability, life skills, so on and so forth. Except the Scandinavian education system, rest of the current education systems seem to have lot of gaps in delivering value. A lot of technology driven initiatives such as MOOC, Khan Academy, Coursera and numerous other avenues have cropped up in the last few years, and they are all in various stages of implementation and trial, to be termed as revolutionary and long term success stories.

On the other hand, statistical data in India on the number of graduates from regular streams such as Arts, Commerce and Science, and professional programs such as Engineering, are staggering – about 20 million students graduate in the regular stream and about a million and a half in Engineering. And the number of graduates who are found employable by corporates out of the above number are just a fraction.

Despite the serious complaints and lacunae in the education system globally and in India, the fact is that education pays. The more you learn, the more you earn. Compared to a drop out from school, even a regular stream graduate earns more and does better. And if you graduate in engineering or have a professional management program from a prestigious institute, you do even better. The more you learn, the more you earn.

This is one point that we keep emphasising every time we meet with students, parents and school administrators. ShikshaDaan encourages and supports students through funding and mentoring so that students do not stop in between but pursue and complete their education. We believe in the philosophy of ‘Give one, Lift one’.

Am sharing an infographic (based on info in US but relevant here too) that confirms the point, learn more, earn more.

Request everyone to mentor students around them to continue their education to learn more and earn more.
